3D Machine Control for Earthworks


GPS Machine Control is now becoming the essential preferred method for earthworks operations on heavy Civil Engineering schemes. The productivity and efficiency of Machine Control technology for bulk earthworks cannot be matched by traditional methods. Machine Control reduces the cost of the requirement of a full Site Engineering team, as the Setting Out of the operation can be controlled by one Supervising Engineer.

At Gridmark Survey Ltd we can assist with your Machine Control operation. We can provide GPS base stations, set up & installation, including the calibration of the site. We can produce design models to be used within each Machine Control enabled plant machinery, such as tracked bulldozers, excavators, motor graders and paving machines.

For fine grading operations, such as a final trim to sub-base stone placement prior to road surfacing, we can set up a UTS grading system. This will allow a blade on a dozer or motor grader to operate on a prism system, receiving a horizontal and vertical alignment from the Total Station, to achieve a high accuracy tolerance. This system can also be operated to achieve a road surface on a paving machine.

3D Terrain Modelling

Various 3D software is used to create detailed 3D terrain models of a specific site, such as Landfill, Quarry Developments, Remediation schemes, and Civil Engineering projects, such as roads, highways, and reservoirs. We use the triangulation within the design to manipulate the horizontal and vertical alignment to produce 3D models of a specific site, so that it can be used by Site Engineers for Construction, or for Volumetric Earthworks operations.
